Alice Matthews

Alice C. Matthews, 91 of Vestal passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, September 23, 2016. She was predeceased by her beloved husband George of 58 years. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Katherine Matthews Robertson and Hugh W. Robertson, III, Alexandria, VA, a son Dr. G. Philip Matthews, Arlington, TX, grandson Christopher Gabriel George Matthews, a sister Olga Solomon and several nieces and nephews. She was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Vestal and was a retired teacher with the Vestal School District, retiring after 28 years of service. Alice received her Master’s in Education from SUNY Oneonta and her undergraduate degree from Syracuse University. She belonged to numerous organizations including Monday Afternoon Club, Binghamton Garden Club and was past president of the Antiques Society; but the joy of her life in later years was spending time with her grandson Christopher.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday 9:15 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 5121-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:00 am. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Wednesday from 4-7 pm.
