Beverly J. Winterstein passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025 from Alzheimer’s. She is predeceased by her husband Samuel, brother Richard and oldest son James. She is survived by her three children Leslee, Susan and Jeffrey. Also survived by her daughter-in-law Nancy, four grandchildren Christopher, Douglas (Samantha), Christina (Shawn) and Sarah. She had five great grandchildren Tyler, Damon, Finn, Elijah and her newest great grand daughter Sarah Grace who brightened her final days. Two nephews, Richard (Gail) their daughter Alex and especially her beloved Arizona family, nephew Ronald (Ofelia) their daughters Elizabeth and Veronica, who she dearly loved.
Beverly was a Wife, Mom, Grandma, Aunt Beve and Mrs W who was loved. She will be missed by her family including her dog, Teddy. He was her loyal companion who took over from her devoted dog Ginger who unexpectedly passed a few months ago. Ginger was always by her side, on her lap…until she couldn’t be. Ginger’s ashes will accompany Mom on her journey to Heaven.
Mom took pride in her children and family. She created/sewed our childhood Halloween costumes and left handwritten birthday notes around the house (including the toilet). Because of her, our home was always the place for family gatherings. She was an amazing cook and baker, who could never make a “small batch” of anything. Every year she baked our birthday cakes, surprising us with the cake topper decorations. She fed anyone who visited, including contractors. She had her secret family recipes but was always trying out a new recipe to add to her recipe boxes. Her recipes will be shared and treasured by family members.
Mom had an endless love for her furry 4-legged children. She fed anything furred or feathered – always said “they looked hungry”. Whether a dog, cat, outside critter or birds she fed them all. We must have had 75+ pigeons appear daily out of nowhere because they knew Mom would be out with birdseed (more than once)! Over her 91+ years she lovingly took care of hundreds of animals. Because of Mom, our house has been always filled with dogs, cats and various other animals including Calvin, a ringneck dove who she found on a grocery store shopping cart.
The family would like to thank Guthrie Hospice especially Lisa and Naomi for their care and compassion during our mom’s final weeks.
In our mom’s memory please consider a donation to the Broome County Dog Shelter (where she found some of her beloved dogs) or the Broome County Humane society.
Love you always Mom.
