Bill H. Moranville

November 15, 1920 — February 4, 2013

Bill H. Moranville, Lieutenant Colonel, USAF (retired), 92, Vestal, New York passed away peacefully at his home February 4, 2013, with his wife of 66 years, Millie, at his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Lela Moranville, a sister, Marcylene (Moranville) Mason, two brothers, Gordon and Don Moranville, and a son, Michael. His is survived by his wife, Millie, his brother Howard and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill obtained his private pilot license June 1, 1941 while attending the University of Nebraska. With the attack on Pearl Harbor he immediately enlisted in the Army Air Corps and after further pilot training, was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and served 40 combat missions as 1st pilot of a Martin B-26 Marauder in the Mediterranean Theater. He received his BS degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the USAF Institute of Technology, and retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service which included assignments of Aircraft Maintenance Officer, Chief Pilot, Bomber Test and Executive Officer at Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards, California. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as Project Manager on the Gemini Space Program, before coming to Binghamton 1966 as Program Manager on the Apollo Mission simulator with Link Division. Bill owned and maintained four different private aircraft and was generous volunteering his services to the Civil Air Patrol. His love of flying was occasionally interrupted by his love of golf. He was a member of many Military and Engineering organizations. There will be no calling hours. At the convenience of the family, commitment services and burial will be at Bayard, Nebraska next to his beloved son, Mike. The family wishes to thank Hospice for their devoted care in Bill’s final days. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Old Vestal Road, Vestal, NY 13850.
