Cindy Lou Rake (née Hammond), 65, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, in Johnson City, New York, on her birthday. Born on August 7, 1960, in Binghamton, New York, Cindy lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Cindy was a devoted daughter to her mother Mary-Lou Hammond and shared a close bond with her sister Kim Hickock and brother-in-law Duane. She was the beloved wife of Robert Rake and the proud mother of six children: Joe Phinney (Yvonne), Kristie Phinney (Shane), Sean Rake (Bernadette), Amber McCarthy (Kevin), Brittany Shields (Jeremy), and Katelyn Crawford (Al). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren—Morgan, Glenn, Izabella, Violet, Landon, Colton, Xylia, and Rio—and her great-granddaughter Ally. She also leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members who will miss her dearly.
Cindy was predeceased by many loving family members whose memories she carried with her throughout her life.
A woman of vibrant spirit and deep affection for those around her, Cindy found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren. Whether it was sharing stories or simply being present in their lives, she treasured every moment. Her love for bingo brought excitement to many evenings, while her prized 1968 Chevelle offered countless hours of joy as she cruised the roads she knew so well.
Family gatherings were at the heart of Cindy’s world. She especially loved going out to eat with loved ones—Jane's Diner held a special place in her heart as a favorite spot to share meals and memories. Family vacations to Darien Lake were another highlight of her life; these trips created lasting bonds and joyful traditions that will be remembered fondly by all who joined her.
Cindy was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She touched everyone she met with warmth and kindness. Her presence brought light into every room she entered and comfort to those around her. Deeply loved by all who knew her, the loss of Cindy’s presence will be felt forever.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 14, 2025, from 02:30 PM to 04:30 PM at Hawleyton Methodist Church 901 Hawleyton Road. Memorial service will start at 2:30 pm, with food and refreshments to follow in the fellowship hall.
