Donald J. Carlson, 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 5, 2014. He was predeceased by his wife, Joan; his brother, Walter; his parents, Walter and Lena Carlson, and dearest friend and family member, Julie Frost. Don is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Rosemary Carlson; his cherished children, Diane (Thomas) Connors, David Carlson, and Christopher (Tracy) Carlson; and his step-children, Jennifer Johnson and Jeffrey Jones. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Richard (Jessie) Carlson, John (Carolyn) Connors, David (Katrina) Carlson, Brian Connors, Jessica (Nicholas) Woods, Megan (Shannon) David, Michael Carlson, Bryce, Chase, and Shayla Carlson, Zachery and Justine Johnson, Jordan Jones, Hunter Woods, and Dehlila Carlson; his sister-in-law, Gail Carlson; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Sharon Drewitt; several nephews, and many dear friends. Don will be fondly remembered for his caring and compassionate ways. First and foremost in his heart was his deep and tremendous love for his family. Don was a lifelong resident of Endicott. He was an Eagle Scout, graduated from Johnson City High School in 1949, served in the U.S. Army, and began his career as a registered nurse. He retired from IBM, Owego after 36 years of service, was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, and a member of the Endicott Elks Club. Following his retirement, he continued to help others by volunteering for Meals on Wheels, helping senior citizens file their tax returns, assisting church parishioners as they planned funerals for their loved ones, and being the “voice” of the UE Tiger’s Pride marching band. Don also enjoyed playing bingo, singing with the church choir and the B.C. Pops, traveling, and telling stories from the past. He especially enjoyed fishing and spending time with his friends and family at his vacation house on Silver Lake in Deposit, NY.
Funeral Services will be held Monday 10 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 10:30 am Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Sunday afternoon from 2-5 pm. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Meals on Wheels of Western Broome, 705 West Main Street, Endicott, NY 13760.
