Dorothy Doud Ayers of Endicott, died in her home, surrounded by family, Monday April 13, 2015. Born in Majestic, KY on February 25, 1922, the daughter of John Henry and Mary Leman Doud. Predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Howard Walter Ayers in 2000; her son, Michael Howard Ayers in 2012; her brothers, Earl and John H. Doud Jr.; her sisters, Lillian Battaglini, Helen Kruchek and Beatrice Hancock; her nephew, John Daniel Doud; life long friends, John and Esther Greene. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jeanne Grannis Ayers; her grandchildren, Kenneth Walter Ayers, Brian Michael (Heather) Ayers and Kimberly Michelle Ayers; her great grandchildren, Destini Mae Ayers, Sebastian Tayte Ayers and Oscar Logan Ayers; nieces Patricia Battaglini, Charlotte Wigent, Mary Alice Simmons, Karen Kruchek and Janet Blaylock; her extended family, Jackie and Sam Ferguson and their families. Dorothy attended Beckley College and Ridley’s Business School. She worked for Burroughs Corp, Broome County Chamber of Commerce and retired from George Industries in 1984. Dorothy served in the U.S. Marine Corp during W.W.II where she met and married her husband and was a Charter Member of the Women’s Memorial Foundation in Washington, D.C. She volunteered as a Librarian at Ideal Senior Center for 13 years, was a member of the Endicott Elks Auxiliary and was an avid Genealogy researcher. Dorothy was a long time member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Endicott, NY. The family would like to say a special thank you to Lourdes Hospice Care Staff for their wonderful care of Dorothy.
Funeral Services Friday 1 pm from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, with Reverend John Martinichio of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church officiating. Entombment will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Friday from 12 pm until service time at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the Union Volunteer Emergency Squad, 8 South Avenue B, Endwell, NY 13760 or Lourdes Hospice 4102 Old Vestal Road, Vestal, NY 13850.
