Edward “Ed” Bendert Jr.

d. May 24, 2024

Edward J. Bendert Jr. passed away after an illness on May 24, 2024 at the age of 80, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Filomena and Edward Bendert Sr. on November 17, 1943 and enjoyed a fun childhood in Endicott, NY with his brothers Tom, Joe, and Paul and his sister, Theresa, now all deceased.

A graduate of Union-Endicott High School, Ed went on to graduate from Clarkson Universitywith a math degree. IBM hired him shortly afterwards which allowed Ed to purchase his first car, a burgundy Mustang, still a topic of conversation. He worked for IBM as a computer programmer at the Endicott location, Glendale Lab and IBM Toronto for forty-four years. He really enjoyed his work colleagues and still enjoys a friendship with Dick and Rose Pears, among others.

Some of his best times were spent at the Thousand Islands, fishing with his dad, wife, family and friends, boating, and visiting with family on the 4th of July.

Ed is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patricia, and his three children whom he loved dearly and who made him so proud. They are Michelle Legge (husband Mike), Austin Miller (wife Jillian) and Eddie Bendert III. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law Virginia and June Bendert, Barbara and Kathy Babb, and special brother-in-law David Babb. He enjoyed seeing his many nieces and nephews at get-togethers and thought of them fondly.

Ed planned most weekends around the grandchildren’s events, and they have been a great source of happiness to him. He is so proud of Tyler Legge, Addie Miller, AJ Miller, and Asher Miller.

Watching movies, playing with their dog, Bella, woodworking, and doing genealogy research were activities that gave Ed a lot of pleasure. He was an avid NY Rangers, Yankees, and Giants fan. But, most of all, if he was within a mile of a casino (or more), he pulled in to play his favorite game, video poker.

A private family service has been planned.

Any donation you may wish to make can be made to any Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.
