Today the heavenly choir has received a special Irish tenor - a good father, man and faithful servant of God. Edward Francis Butler, 90, of Endwell, gave up his spirit peacefully on Saturday morning, October 26, 2013. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward J. and Stella Butler; his sisters Dorothy, Ruth and Marge; and his beloved dog, Max. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ethel Butler; a loving daughter who adored him, Francine Butler Groat and son-in-law, Hall Groat II, who was like a son to him. He is also survived by son, Edward Butler (Debbie) and grandchildren Eddie and Christine, along with nephews and nieces. Edward was the owner for over 40 years of Butler Trucking & Storage. He served in the Marines in WWII, was a member of the American Legion and a 20 year member of the Endwell Community Chorus, as well as a past member of the Binghamton Symphony Chorus and the BC Pops Chorus. His love of music extended into being a talented violinist, along with being an actor in local musicals. His service to God began at the age 7 when he served as an altar boy at St. Ambrose, and later in life, he was as a member of their choir for over 20 years, along with being a lector for over 10 years. What was most special was his love of life - he did not hold grudges, appreciated a good joke, a fine cigar, a good steak, and a Manhattan. Our loss is heaven’s gain. Love you so much, Poppa - until we meet again in heaven. Edward’s family will receive friends for a calling hour at St Ambrose Church, Endicott, at 9AM, on Tuesday, October 29, followed by a funeral Mass at 10AM. Expressions of sympathy can be made to The Humane Society, Binghamton, NY.
