Edward “Ed” Dewar

Edward C. Dewar passed peacefully from this life on October 20, 2016 surrounded by family. He was 88 years old, and truly lived a very fulfilling life. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Gladys. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Carol, three daughters Suzanne (John) Ruminski, Nancy (Joe) Savino and Laura (Mark) Woodruff, six grand-children Jaclyn (Nick) Jennings, Jon Ruminski, Erika Musa, Jamie Musa, Ashley Woodruff and Ryan Woodruff, and two great-grandchildren Ethan and Aiden Jennings. Ed graduated from Vestal High School in 1946. He was a long time 45+ year employee of IBM, after serving in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Ed loved and appreciated the outdoors, spending many years hunting with his family and lifetime friends in the Adirondacks, fishing, rabbit hunting with his beagles, hiking the Adirondack 46 peaks, and bird watching. When indoors he enjoyed spending time playing cards with his friends at the Russian Club, bowling, reading National Geographic magazine, and watching sports.In retirement he volunteered building homes for Habitat for Humanity, delivering flowers, and giving rides to cancer patients. Ed accomplished visiting all of the US capitals, took many nice trips with Carol over the years to the National Parks, and spent many winters in Myrtle Beach with friends and family. He was a life-long and active member of The Endwell United Methodist Church. Most of all, Ed was a truly devoted husband, father and grand-father, always dependable and loyal, kind, gentle and loving in his own quiet way. He had a special way of kidding, and a special way of bringing a smile to our faces. Throughout the years he taught his children valuable lessons (“When all else fails, read the directions!”) that will always be remembered. Ed will be forever in our hearts, and remembered for his great passion and appreciation of the outdoors and nature, and his love and kindness. The family is thankful for the kind care extended to Ed by the staff of Willow Point and Brookdale.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, Sunday afternoon from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you take a moment in Ed’s honor and observe the beautiful nature and wildlife that God has blessed us with.
