Early Tuesday, August 6, 2016, Elijiah J Shofkom Sr., age 24, left this world fighting his final battle with heroin. Eli is now watching over the two loves of his life – Amanda Vargason and their son, “baby” Elijiah J Jr. Eli will live on in the hearts of so many, but especially his mother - Paula Shofkom, his father – Jeffery Shofkom, the parents that gave him life Esther Nesbitt (Robert) and Harry Sherman, siblings – Denise Turner (Gary), Rayleen Newland (Ron), Ruth Legree (Antoine) Harley Elliott (Nathan), Deborah Likewise (Martin), Abby Legree, Isaiah Brewer, grandparents and so very many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
“The only possible consolation is the belief that finally, after fighting so hard to find it, Eli has found peace.” – Susan Vermaat Mueller
“Elijiah Jedediah Shofkom was a part of all of us, yet he belonged to no one but himself.” – Paula Shofkom
“We love you Daddy Eli! Forever and Always. Fly High Batman” - Amanda and “lil Eli”
Eli was working very hard to be a better man for himself and his son. He wanted to be someone his son could look up to. He wanted his son to have the best shot at life, no matter what it took. Eli was just starting to find that place but heroin, kept finding him and would not let him go.
We believe that Eli would want this to be an example of just how quickly life can change. He would want you to know - stop and do it now. He would want you to know that even when you are in the dark place and feel like no one is there-your family is. Eli was able to reconnect with so many people during his period of recovery, and there was nothing more important than that for all. Although Eli is a casualty of this heinous war, his battle is now over.
“You should tell people how important they are to you. Always.” – Abby Legree
