Emil J. “Jack” Sedlak, 91, of Endwell, NY passed away peacefully, Saturday August 17, 2013, at Good Shepherd-Fairview in Binghamton, after a short illness. He was predeceased by his first wife Betty in 1985 and his second wife Gloria in 2005. He is survived by his wife Alice Andrews; brother Steve(Mary Lou) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and his three sons Mark (Patti) of Endwell, NY, Bruce (Nancy) of Liverpool, NY, Scott (Pam) of Tampa, FL, and his daughter Carol(Brian) of Henderson, NV. He is also survived by ten grandchildren Kelly; Lori; Julie; Karin; Elizabeth; Chris; Gannon; Tara; Anna and Danielle; two great grandchildren, Quinn and Rory; also several nieces and nephews. Emil was a veteran of the Second World War serving in the Army Air Corp in the Burma-China Theater of Operations. Upon returning from the war he married the love of his life and the two of them moved to Iowa City, Iowa where Emil, with the help of Betty, earned his degree in Chemical Engineering. In 1950 he returned to Endicott to start his professional career with IBM and raise his family. Emil had several positions at IBM prior his retirement in 1982. Emil was an avid golfer who played the game well into his 80’s. He was a member of the Endicott Boys Club and worked hard to exercise his mind and body. Later in life his retired friends created a club called the ROMEO’s (Retired Old Men Eating Out) and he enjoyed his weekly breakfasts with the group. Emil was a founding member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Endwell, NY. The family wishes to thank the staff of Good Shepherd Fairview and Good Shepherd Village for their compassionate care.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday 10 am from Church of the Holy Family 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, Wednesday evening from 5-8 pm. In Lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Western Broome, One Clubhouse Road, Endicott, NY 13760 or Meals on Wheels of Western Broome, 705 West Main Street, Endicott, NY 13760 or the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech Street, Johnson City, NY 13790.
