Emilio, Mastroianni, 95, of Endicott, passed away peacefully early Monday, May 22, 2017 at Mercy House in Endicott, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Filomena (Masucci); his brother Gino (who died at birth) and his beloved son, Mark. He leaves his wife of 69 years, Norma (Testani) Mastroianni; his children, Anthony (Lori Retzlaff) and Natalie (James Holton); daughters-in-law, Nancy Porter, Patti Hart and Jill Kie; his grandchildren, Travis (Erin), Maria (Justyn), Michael (Christina), Samantha (Erik), Adam (Jessica), Mason (Maraela), Mick, and Jordan; seven great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends. In 1930, Emilio emigrated from Italy with his parents at the age of nine. He met the little girl who would one day become his wife while learning how to play the mandolin from her father. He graduated from Union Endicott High School and served in the United States Army Signal Core, deploying to Germany during W.W.II. Upon returning, he took a position at Ozalid in Vestal as a draftsman. He secured multiple patents through the course of his career and retired as a top engineer in his division. Emilio prized trips to his cottage at Oneida Lake with his family above much else; except fishing and dancing with Norma at the Fountains Pavilion and the Sons of Italy. His perfectionism and attention to detail was renowned to those he knew and could be matched only by the depth of his gracious charm. Emilio wore an affectionate smile atop his trim, 5’3″ frame. He was a lifelong member of the Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on the north side of Endicott. A man with charisma, pride and good humor, Emilio was a true paradigm of old-world Italian charm. We are grateful to the exceptional staff and volunteers at the Mercy House for ensuring Emilio’s final few months on this earth were spent in grace and amongst love.
