Eugene “Geno” Drobny, born December 30, 1947, passed away Sunday March 26 at Willow Point Nursing Home where he resided since January 2016 after a serious injury in 2015.
He was predeceased by his parents Theodosia and John Drobny and his sister Patricia (Scott) Ellis.
Geno is survived by his daughter Eryin (Ross) Leiman and one grandson Jordan, Philadelphia, PA, a very special friend and guardian, Debbie Farthing, dear friend Joe Drotar along with many dear friends at the Sons of Italy, Endicott. He graduated from Union-Endicott High School, Class of ‘65, the University of Rochester in 1969 and SUNY Binghamton in 1975.
Geno was employed by the IBM Corp., as an Advisory Engineer/System Analyst from 1970-2002. While in high school he was a member of many clubs including the National Honor Society. He was also very active in sports with baseball being his main interest. He played baseball for University of Rochester where he received a scholarship for baseball. His famous statement was high school hero college zero.
After retirement he joined the Sons of Italy in Endicott where he volunteered helping with luncheons and other events. He was also, a member of the American Legion Post 1700, and an avid bowler.
He enjoyed spending his summers at his family cottage on Cayuga Lake boating and jet skiing. He had many friends and was always the life of the party.
Services will be held Thursday 11 am at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. Entombment will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, Thursday from 10 am until service time at 11 am.
