Frank Steven Mistretta passed away peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, October 5, 2016, with his family and Priest, Father John Kurgan, by his side. Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Margaret Rose DiStefano Mistretta. Frank is survived by his children and grandchildren, Frank David (Susan) Mistretta, Thomas Randall (Katya) Mistretta and their sons Alexander and Pio Thomas, and Lisa Michelle (Bryant) Linares and their sons Cameron Robert and Zachary Francis. Frank is also survived by his sister, Francine Custode, and brothers, Peter Mistretta and Anthony (Patricia) Mistretta, sister-in-law, Jeanette Stevens, and brother-in-law, James Stevens, and his much loved nieces, nephews and godchildren. Frank was also preceded in death by his parents Frank and Antonina Mistretta, and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary, Leah, Lena, Albert, Arthur, Charles, Anthony, Fred, Al, John, Joseph and Alphonso. Frank was a United States Navy Veteran of the World War H Pacific Theatre and a member of the Navy’s Special Task Air Group One (STAG 1). Frank worked at IBM his entire career, where he developed many dear lifelong friendships. He was particularly proud of his work with the Light Airborne Multipurpose System (LAMPS) avionics project team. Frank was an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Vestal since 1956 and proudly served in the Knights of Columbus. Frank was a master at the grill and loved the game of golf. The Yankees were always on. Frank was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather and faithful friend. He devoted his life of ninety-two years to his faith, family and friends. “A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter; he who has found one has found a treasure.” Frank will be sorely missed.

A Funeral Mass, Father John Kurgan presiding, will be celebrated on Monday, October 10, 2016, at 11:00 in the morning at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal, New York. Frank’s family will receive friends at the Church on Monday morning from 10:00 until Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.
