Gary Knewasser, 80 of Endicott, NY passed away on March 22, 2026 after battling several years with Alzheimer’s and cancer. He was born in Binghamton, NY on February 5, 1946.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Joan, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage; his sons, Michael and Scott (Stephanie); his 5 grandchildren, Kaylyn, Zachery (Nicole), Alex, Clay and Kyle; and 2 great-grandchildren, Hudson and Rhett. He is also survived by his sister Joyce Lohman (Bill) and sisters-in-law Diane Whipple, Janice (Ron) Rockefeller, Marlene Knewasser as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Clayton and Mabel Knewasser and brother, Wayne.
Gary graduated from Binghamton North High School and Broome Technical Community College (electrical engineering). He enlisted in the United States Naval Reserves and was stationed in California. He worked at NYSEG for 32 years and also as a Probation Officer with Broome County Department of Probation for 6 years.
He was a volunteer member of the Vestal Fire Department and enjoyed helping out where ever he was needed. Gary enjoyed bowling and golf but nothing could compare with the time he spent with his children and grandchildren who were involved in baseball, basketball, soccer and football. These were a part of his glory years he would never forget.
Funeral Services for Gary will be held on Saturday, March 28th at 10:30 am at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main Street, Endicott. Burial will be in Vestal Park Cemetery, Vestal. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the Allen Memorial Home from 9 am until Service time at 10:30 am.
His family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Mercy House for their compassionate care, not only for the patient but the family as well. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 North McKinley Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760, in Gary’s name.
