Geraldine "Geri" Cheevers

Owego

A devoted Mother and Grandmother, she was born in Manhattan, New York, Geri spent her formative years in Ipswich, Massachusetts before eventually settling in New York. She graduated from Tioga Center High School and later earned her real estate license through Broome Community College. Her early professional life included working as a real estate agent for Sheelen and Wells in the 1970s and 80s. She then embarked on a long and successful career with various iterations of the phone company. Thanks to her dedication and hard work, she was fortunate enough to retire early and enjoy many fulfilling years surrounded by family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Hildur Walters, her beloved partner of over 30 years, Harold Kellam, and her former husband John Cheevers Sr.
Geri’s life was rich with love, laughter, and creativity. She split her time between her home in New York and North Fort Myers, Florida—two places where she built lasting friendships and cherished memories. A devoted mother and stepmother, she is survived by her son John Cheevers Jr of North Fort Myers, FL; daughter Susanne Cheevers of Binghamton, NY; daughter Elizabeth Cheevers-Youngs (Ty) of Harrison, ME; stepsons Daryl Kellam (Kathryn) of Endwell, NY; Guy Kellam (Rose) of Chelmsford, MA; and Gary Kellam (Rhonda) of Albuquerque, NM.
Grandchildren Sydney and Taylor Youngs of Harrison, Maine and Jake, Gabe and Shea Kellam of Endwell, NY. And her beloved fur babies, Max, 3.5 and Number 4.
Geri had a zest for life that touched everyone around her. Her home was always open—filled with warmth, delicious food, laughter, and the comforting presence of pets she adored. Geri loved animals and owned several rescues over the years. She tried her hand at fostering, but she always ended up adopting them herself. Her love for entertaining was matched only by her passion for gardening, traveling, garage sale adventures, and enjoying Brandy Alexanders with good company.
Her creativity knew no bounds—whether through painting, crafting, decorating for the holidays, or organizing memorable celebrations. Geri had a unique gift for making others feel special; when you were with her, you were not just welcomed—you were celebrated.
She was also a proud member of both the Pioneers of America and the Moose Lodge of Owego for many years.
Geri’s legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with her generosity, humor, and boundless affection. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Service will be held on September 19, 2025 at Allen Memorial Home 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, NY.
