Irene M. (Sventek) Dwyer, age 88, passed away Saturday, September 22nd surrounded by her devoted family. She was predeceased by her loving husband William “Dooley” Dwyer; parents Frank and Magdalena Sventek; brothers Frank, Joseph and Rudy; sisters Sophie and Millie; and son-in-law Jed Maloney. She is survived by her daughter Denise Maloney and sons Dan Dwyer, PhD (Peggy), Bill Dwyer Jr. (Carolyn), and Jim Dwyer (Constance); her grandchildren Nicholas, Brian, Mark, Shannon (Brandon), Geoff (Chelsea), Kelly, Jes, Billy III, Nikolette and Christina; great-grandchildren Noah, Kinsley and Nico; her sister Mary Picciano; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Irene and Bill were the proud owners of Dooley’s Inn located on the Northside of Endicott from 1960 to 1985 where she prepared delicious lunches and played the “straight man” for Dooley’s infamous comedy routines. Irene was very athletic throughout school, obtaining the nickname “Archie” and continued on with her team spirit by becoming a passionate member of the UE class of ’48 committee. She was instrumental in planning many reunion events and took pride in writing “The Grapevine” newsletter. She loved gardening and was an excellent cook who would generously spoil her family and friends with her extraordinary Christmas cookies.
