Irene Evelyn Davey Nirchi, beloved mother, sister aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 11, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on April 9,1934, in Endicott, NY, Irene was the cherished daughter of the late George and Florence Davey.
She was married to the love of her life, Anthony (Tony) Nirchi on October 5, 1957, at Christ the King church in Endwell. Together they built a life of happiness, and adventures, raising four wonderful children and celebrating 60 joyful years of marriage before Tony’s passing in 2019. Irene is not only predeceased by her beloved husband but also by her parents and siblings Rosanna Eckert, Francis Davey, Delores Lyman, George Davey, Marion McBeth, and Betty Brown.
Her legacy will be lovingly continued by her 4 children: Marcella Pierce and her husband Greg, Robert Nirchi and his wife Shari, Philip Nirchi and his partner Augustine Jalomo, and Anthony Nirchi. She is also survived by her brother Richard Davey and his wife Dawn. Irene was a proud grandmother to Steven Pierce and his wife Kayla, and Ariana Nirchi, and a cherished great grandmother to Kayla, Adelynn, Serenity, Gabriel, and Samual Pierce, as well as Klohe, Jayden and Elijah Nirchi. Many special nieces, nephews and dear friends also mourn her passing and celebrate her remarkable life.
Irene’s vibrant life was marked by passion for family, faith, and community. As a young woman, she was a spirited member of the Maine high school cheerleading squad and an adept baton twirler, showcasing her zest for life and talent. Her career spanned the manufacturing and retail industries, with dedicated roles at Endicott Coil, Amphenol Cadre, General Electric, IBM Endicott, and Owego. She also worked in retail department store Grand Way back in the day, and as a part-time employee for Walmart.
Irene was a devoted member of the Church of the Holy Family parish in Endwell, where she also participated in the Holy Rosary Society. She was an active member of the Sons of Italy, and the Mutual Aid Society. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her in all her endeavors.
At home, Irene was a homemaker, whose talents consisted of cooking her favorite dishes, baking especially during the holidays, knitting, sewing, and home improvement projects that were unmatched. She had a knack for welcoming everyone she met with warmth, making them feel at ease with her infectious smile and laughter. Known for her kindness and generosity, Irene’s humor and light-heartedness touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She enjoyed her independent living arrangements while at UMH Hilltop campus in Johnson City, NY and appreciated the great care from staff, and the many friends she had made while living there. The family thanks the staff at Guthrie Lourdes for their excellent care.
Irene’s family shares a special message: “Mom’s legacy will live on in all those who knew and loved her. She always strived to live her best life and kept it simple and uncomplicated, and encouraged others to do the same.”
Irene Nirchi’s memory will forever be treasured, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who had the honor of being part of her life.
A service to honor and celebrate Irene’s life will be held Friday July 24, 2026, at the Church of the Holy Family located at 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Procession to Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City following the Mass. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, a cause close to Irene’s heart.
