James Francis Card, known to his friends and family as Jim, passed away on March 16, 2026, at the age of 82. Jim was born on November 19, 1943, in Endicott, New York.
A 1961 graduate of Vestal High School and the Student Government President, he remained active in several organizations throughout the years. His involvement with the Vestal 50 Plus Club and the Hall of Fame Committee were especially meaningful to him. After graduating from Vestal, Jim attended Princeton University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He then went on to work at US Steel in Pittsburgh followed by IBM, Endicott where he spent the remainder of his career.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Leslie and Helen Card, his in-laws, Edward and Louise Simpson, brother-in-law, John Simpson and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by the love of his life for more than 60 years, Sandra Simpson Card, his sister, Susan Pollock (John), and his three daughters: Leslie (Peter), Cathrine, and Suzanne. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Alex, Sarah, Jack, Mia, Rachel, Caroline and Sandra, always known to them as their beloved “Pa.”
Jim was a brilliant man and professional, a tireless reader and consumer of knowledge. He truly enjoyed coaching the Vestal Stars Girls Travel Soccer Team for many years, where he was affectionately nicknamed “the Doc.” Jim was a kind and wonderful father, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, neighbor and friend, blessed with many lifelong friendships. He was always steady and dependable, a role model and father-figure to so many throughout the years—a true class act. Those lucky enough to be in his orbit feel honored to have known him.
The family will receive friends at Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main Street, Endicott on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 4-6 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal, Friday, March 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.
