James Joseph Murray of Endwell, NY passed peacefully into the arms of the Holy Family at his home on Saturday December 22, 2018 surrounded by his children. Born October 22, 1929 in Minooka, PA. James was predeceased by Patricia, his loving wife of 61 years, his eldest son James, his parents Joseph and Mary, eight of his siblings, and grandchildren Jennifer and Joseph Patrick. He is survived by his daughter-in-law Betsy (Endwell), Gerard (Endwell), Michael and Deborah Murray (Syracuse), Patricia (Endwell), Carla and Darrell Coon (Johnson City), Christopher and Nancy Murray (Endicott), Paul and Donna Murray (Endicott), Joseph and Sharon (Rochester). James is also survived by his sister Jane Burke, sisters-in-law Helen Murray and Ann Marie Kincel, all of Scranton PA. James and Patricia have 57 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
James graduated from the University of Scranton, after four years in the United States Air Force, where in addition to his proud service, he excelled on the football fields and basketball courts of our bases in Alaska and Germany. After returning from service and while attending University, James met and married Patricia, the one and only love of his life, on December 26, 1953. Upon graduation James began a 33 year career with IBM at the Glendale Lab where his dedication and leadership were evident to all. His commitment to IBM and his profession was surpassed only by his commitment to family and faith. As husband and father, he taught by example through his love and devotion to his Catholic faith and family, his continual acts of charity, and his fidelity to pro-life causes.
For our family, he was our moral compass, an ever forgiving father, and our greatest supporter. In times of joy and times of heartache, our father never failed to remind us that we are truly blessed. Our blessings flowed from our parent’s faith-filled marriage and life together. Throughout his life, Pop strove to live by St. Padre Pio’s motto, “Pray, Hope, and Don’t Worry.”
Funeral services will be held Friday 9:30 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church at 10 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Thursday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Domincan Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, 4597 Warren Rd., Ann Arbor MI, 48105.
