Jan Cottrell

Jan Cottrell, age 60, passed away on January 11th, 2026, following a battle with several illnesses in the last year. A beloved friend to all, she is survived by her husband of 37 years, Dave, daughter, Alex (Loren), and son, Nick. Mother-in-law, Shirley Cottrell, Sister-in-Law, Karen (Charlie), Nieces and Nephews, Charley, Candi (James), Chris (Megan), Crystal, and Corinne, Great nieces and nephews, Eliza, Hunter, Scarlett, and Ashton, Mother, Geraldine Behm, Sister Jo-Ann (Bill). Jan is predeceased by her father (Harold) and Brother (Hap).
Always delighted by children, Jan dedicated her career to working with students with special needs, and spent the last 23 years teaching at Broome-Tioga BOCES. An avid reader, Jan particularly loved science fiction and fantasy novels.
A celebration of life will be hosted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the Cottrell family is requesting contributions in Jan’s memory to the Achieve education program at Achieveny.org or to Springbrook at Springbrookny.org.
