He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, a lifetime member of the Elks Club and retired from Singer Link Kirkwood, NY and Carson's Rotary Vestal, NY. He was the owner/operator of John's Texaco, Binghamton, NY.
John was born in Catawissa, PA, attended McIntyre Elementary and graduated from Catawissa High School. He attended Tri-State College in Indiana and graduated with a B.S. degree in electrical engineering. He was married on November 29, 1958, to his High School sweetheart, Emma Jane Stewart. He was hired by Singer Link in 1958 as a field engineer and advanced to the project manager for the Flight Simulation Corporation. In 1972, he opened his own business, John’s Texaco, quickly expanding to two locations, becoming the “King of the Parkway”.
John was foremost a family man, always prioritizing his wife and family first. He was an excellent provider and educator of all. He instilled the values of faith in God, pride in country, a strong work ethic and respect for others. John enjoyed sports- he played baseball, basketball and captained his bowling teams. He also enjoyed coaching his children in all sports they participated in, umpired at Vestal Little League and was an avid New York Yankees and Syracuse Basketball fan. He loved woodworking, his pristine yard, his all-purpose garage, his well-racked wine room, and problem-solving with his engineering skills. He had a passion for cars- keeping them well-maintained and running with unlimited top speed. John was a loving, dedicated son, brother, husband, uncle, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
Special thanks to the staff on Seton 2 and the Hospice staff members- Whitney, Nate, Brittni, Kristine, Lauren and Gabriele.
