Endwell

John D. Manchester died on August 11, 2026. John was born October 27, 1935 in Sayre,
Pennsylvania. He graduated from Owego Free Academy and Hartwick College (Class of 1957).
He began his 60 year career on Wall Street in New York City. This was an exciting beginning for
a small town young man. In 1959 he married Mary Ann Sandstrom. They returned to the
Binghamton area in 1963 to raise their expanding family. John’s professional title was Financial
Advisor with Wells Fargo. However, he always considered himself a stock broker and that was
his true calling. He finally retired in 2022 at the age of 86.

Sports were an important part of his life. He played baseball and basketball in high school and
college. He and Mary Ann were among those who formed the Maine-Endwell Booster Club.
John, though not a great golfer (his own words), had lots of fun times with his buddies at the
Binghamton Country Club. He was always involved in his sons’ sporting events and was a loyal
fan of his grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as Poppy. Poppy loved telling his friends
about their latest achievements. In later years he enjoyed boating at his favorite place, the St.
Lawrence River.

John was predeceased by his parents Ray and Edna Manchester and his wife of 37 years and
the mother of their four sons, Mary Ann. Also predeceasing him was his brother Philip. He is
survived by his wife Janet (Grimes-Manchester), and sons Scott (Janet), Brad (Cindy), Lee
(Inger), and Keith (Tammy) and 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Jean
Manchester and his extended family, the Grimes children, grandchildren, and great
grandchildren.

John was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Endwell, NY. In lieu of flowers,
please consider a contribution in his name to your favorite charity. At John’s request there will
be no calling hours.
