Joseph F. Dwyer II

November 22, 1939 — April 21, 2026

Endicott

Joseph Francis Dwyer II passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 21, 2026 after a hard fought battle with thyroid cancer. Joe was born Nov. 22, 1939 in Binghamton, NY.

Predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Ann Marie, parents Joseph and Ann Dwyer and sister Jeanette Hess.

Survived by four children Steven (Jennifer), David, Becky (Matthew), Joanna (Jason), six grandchildren (Nick, Rachel, Macen, Joe, Gavin, Maddi) and several cousins.

Joe graduated from St. Patrick Academy and Broome Technical College. He was a member of the Army Reserves unit, 73rd Field Hospital (MASH). The majority of his 34 years at IBM were spent as an IT specialist. After his “retirement,” Joe continued to keep himself busy with various part time jobs to pass the time.

In his spare time, he was an avid coin collector, spent 100s of hours building his genealogical family tree. He took pride in his handyman skills, welcoming the challenge of trying to fix anything himself. “Duct tape can solve most problems” was his motto. He found great enjoyment in being in the outdoors, be it just doing yardwork as he continued to mow the lawn even after being restricted to walking with a cane, or taking his family on cross country summer road trips, twice! Spending the last 20 years with his wife and family at Brennan Beach on the shores of Lake Ontario in Pulaski, NY gave him immense enjoyment.

He was an avid reader of Tom Clancy and Robert Ludlum books; he liked Jason Bourne before he became blockbuster fame. He ended most days by reading from a selection out of his vast library of political and military thrillers. Joe enjoyed listening to the sounds of Journey, ABBA, ELO, Lord Huron, Billy Joel and the Eagles. He recently discovered recorded live concerts on YouTube, enjoying concerts by some of his favorite artists. He spent his final night enjoying the sounds of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Joe loved dogs, being particularly fond of Irish setters and golden retrievers. He delighted in the daily 3 mile walks that the family dogs, Casey and Bailey, demanded of him over the even in the rain and snow.

Joe was well known for his “gift to gab” and had an array of one-liners always ready to dish out to whomever he met. Some family favorites were: “That blows my mind!,” “It won’t hurt, did it?,” and “Meanwhile, back at the ranch…”

An Irish blessing: “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; Love leaves a memory no one can steal.” May you rest in peace now, Dad.

A Funeral Mass for Joe will be held on Tuesday, April 28th at 11am at Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at Church from 10 am until Mass at 11 am.
