He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Beth and Daniel Schofield, as well as the mother of his children, Mary Caffrey. A passionate sports fan, Joe's loyalties were firmly with the Yankees, Giants, Knicks and, of course, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He was an enthusiastic participant in pick-up and league sports, especially enjoying time with family and friends. He also found joy in coaching youth sports, where his positive attitude and love for the game made a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Joe’s warmth and humor were his trademarks. He was known for his engaging personality, always eager to listen to others' stories and make them laugh. He was the life of every gathering, often entertaining with his renowned impersonations. Above all, Joe’s greatest joy was his family—especially the deep, unconditional love he had for his children. He took immense pride in watching them grow and flourish, always supporting them with unwavering devotion. Sunday dinners at his sister’s house were his favorite tradition, and he never missed a family gathering. Joe was always the first to arrive and the last to leave, making sure to remind you of the last time he saw you, ensuring you always knew how much he cherished the time he spent with loved ones.
Professionally, Joe worked for many years at the NYS Insurance Fund before becoming a "Red Coat" at the Broome County Arena. He later retired from Broome County Parks, where he continued to serve his community with dedication and a smile.
Joe’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to know him. His generous heart, radiant smile, and unwavering love will be missed more than words can express.
Visitation hours will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church (300, Odell Ave. Endicott, NY), on Wednesday, June 4th, 2025 from 9:30 – 11:00 AM with funeral mass to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Union Endicott Little League (PO Box 5749 Endicott, NY 13763) in Joe’s honor.
