Leonard Calzetoni

Leonard L. Calzetoni, 82, of Endwell, New York, beloved husband of 55 years and best friend of Margaret Mary Calzetoni, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2018. He was predeceased by his parents, Violanda and Victor Calzetoni, and his sister Olivia Picchini. Leonard is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Margaret Mary; daughter, Linnea Erickson (Scott) of Fairport, New York; sons Lenny of Endicott, NY, and Chris (Heather) of Fairport, NY; his grandchildren, Ashley, Nathan, Leah, Katie, Christian, Natalie, Dominic; his great-grandchildren Layla and McKenna; as well as his brother, James Calzetoni and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He also leaves behind his beloved daschunds Missy and Toby that he loved very much and brought him immense joy. Leonard was born in Eynon, PA and graduated with honors from Lackawana Business College. He had a long successful career with Sugermans where he began his career at the age of 16. He managed many departments and became one of the most sought-after gemologists in the area. In 1977, he was promoted to store manager of the Sugermans store in Vestal, New York. He loved his job and had a wonderful time managing the store with complete enthusiasm and love for the business, his employees and his customers. He had many longtime clients and associates of which many became his close friends (Ted Warholic and Joe Durso). Leonard had a beautiful smile and personality that was contagious, friendly and warm. He could strike up a conversation with anyone he met and make them feel happy and loved. He was one of the most loving people and always put his family and friends first. Leonard had an incredible and undeniable love for his family. He always said that while other people enjoyed traveling, he would rather spend time with his grandchildren. He truly meant and lived that. Leonard was an avid fisherman, hunter and master gardener. He enjoyed spending his time growing delicious fruits and vegetables that the family enjoyed each year. His sons, Lenny and Chris, will always remember the amazing fishing and hunting trips he took them on. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was deeply loved by his family. His presence can never be replaced and he will live on in the legacy that he left with his family. Leonard was one of the most giving and loving people to walk and live on this earth. He always put others before himself. Even as he battled brain cancer, he continued to care and for his family. He did remarkable through his entire diagnosis outperforming what the doctors thought that he could achieve. We firmly believe he did this for his family and to be able to spend additional time with us. We will be forever grateful for the courage and spirit he exemplified throughout the disease. He kept his personality throughout the treatments and always made us smile. We look at the past 45 months as the final gift he gave us and will always be forever grateful to him. We are forever blessed to be able to call him our husband, father, poppy, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, brother-in-law, cousin and friend. He was truly larger than life. Love does not end with physical death. We are still connected and he will live with us and through us forever. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the Wilmot Cancer Center, UHS Radiation Oncology, Broome Oncology, United Health Services, Lourdes Hospice and Lourdes Hospital. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care over during his illness were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.
A service in remembrance of his life will be held on Friday, November 30th at 10:00 am at Saint Joseph’s Church in Endicott, NY with Mass to follow at 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wilmot Cancer Center in Rochester, NY.
