Lloyd Barden

Lloyd C. Barden, 87, of Vestal, well-known builder in the Triple Cities area, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family and Absolut Care of Endicott angels on Thursday, August 23rd. He was predeceased by his parents Clifford and Mildred Cook Barden, a former wife Lucille Bruce Barden, a sister Helen Dean, a grandson Michael Shear, a grand-daughter Sarah McGregor, and an infant grandson Kevin McGregor. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Mary Ella “Molly” Barden, a son Richard (Sue) Barden of Port Orange, FL, a daughter Deborra (David) Shear of Whitney Point, and a daughter Patricia (Robert) McGregor of Fuquay-Varina, NC, a stepson Kevin (Sara) Richardson of Tampa, FL, and a stepson James P Richardson of Vestal. He leaves his grandchildren: Christopher (Kristen) Shear, Christina (Richard) Panella, Laurie (Patrick) McWilliams, Matthew (Misty) Barden, Gabriella Richardson, and his eleven great grandchildren. There are many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Extended family include Stacie Kurey, Sally Shear and the Edward Tichenor family. Lloyd was born in Whitney Point to his family who lived on a farm in Lisle. At the age of 12, his family moved to Glen Aubrey where at the age of 18 he joined Hodges Builders. He later helped form the Glen Aubrey Fire Department and built their first fire station. While project manager/foreman for Hodges, they developed Tioga Terrace, Imperial Woods, and Lincolnshire of Owego. One day Bernard Hodges and he grabbed the bulldozer and built the Glen Aubrey Racetrack. In 1978 he started Lloyd Barden Builders building many custom homes in the area. He continued in the industry “Restoring Vestal, One House at a Time” Lloyd was one of the original forming members of the Southern Tier Home Builders Association, where he was a Lifetime Member and was also a member of the National Association of Home Builders. Lloyd, who was always an avid hunter, became interested in antique guns and was well known for his knowledge of Winchesters, Colts, and many other guns. He belonged to the NY State Arms Collectors Association as a director and Sargent of Arms. He was also a member of the American Cruisers Car Club and the theatrical agent for his “Patsy”. This wonderful husband, father, and Papa will be missed by many for his kindness, ice cream bars and numerous tractor rides.
Services will be at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott Friday, August 31st. Calling hours are from 10 am to noon followed by a memorial service conducted by Ed Tichenor at noon. In lieu of flowers, he asked donations to be made to the Front Street Dog Shelter, where their dog “Trixie” was rescued. Checks can be written to Broome County Dog Shelter Trust Fund.
