Lynn Marie Gurney

Newark Valley - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lynn (Allen) Gurney, who left this world on Saturday August 1, 2026, at the age of 71. Surrounded by the endless love of her family, Lynn passed away peacefully, wrapped in the comforting presence of those she cherished most. Though our hearts are broken, we find peace in knowing she was never alone. She was held close, surrounded by love, laughter, tears, and gratitude for the beautiful life she lived. Her love will remain with us always, guiding us and living on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

Lynn was born October 24,1954, in Johnson City, NY. Growing up, her summers were spent with family going camping and fishing. She had fond memories of neighborhood cookouts, always held at the Allen house. When not with family, summers were filled with hours at Ross Park Zoo with her many friends. Her sisters looked up to her and viewed her as a rebel in her teenage years. She graduated from Susquehanna Valley High School in 1972. After graduation she worked for Lander's Perfume Factory. She spent many years working for Endicott Johnson and finished her career by putting in 18 years at IBM, EIT, I3 as a Product Conformance Lab Specialist.

Lynn was predeceased by her parents James and Doreen Allen, her in-laws Wilfred and Dorothy Gurney, her beloved sister Vicki Ward, and sister-in-law Sharon Gurney.

She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years – Dale Gurney, her treasured children: Denise (Kevin) Reilly, Jeremy Clark (Nicole Malinowski), Christina Gurney (Kerry Brown), her grandchildren: Michelle Youngs, Pete Reilly, Kyle Reilly, and Gavin Brown, great grandchildren: Riley and Ellie Youngs, her cherished sisters: Deborah (Peter) Larson, Nancy (James) Clark, brothers-in-law Dean Gurney and Steve Ward, her Uncle David (Janet) Mayo, along with several nieces and nephews.
Lynn had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her beloved dog, Winston. He was her faithful companion, bringing her comfort, joy, and unconditional love.

She had an artistic gift that she used for crafting and painting. She found happiness in creating beautiful things and sharing them with the ones she loved. Music was the soundtrack of Lynn's life. Whether she was singing at the top of her lungs in the car, dancing in her seat, or happily jamming out to one of her favorite songs, music brought her endless joy. She loved sharing that joy with family and friends, introducing them to songs she loved and creating memories through laughter, sing-alongs, and the moments that only music can bring. Her love for music will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Lynn cherished time spent with her family, especially during game nights that were always filled with laughter, love, and friendly competition. She also enjoyed the excitement of playing bingo and making trips to the casino. She took pleasure in reading and listening to audio books, along with doing puzzles and watching movies. Some of her happiest memories were made while camping with her family. She especially enjoyed the memories made while camping at the Bluegrass Festival - making new friends and jamming out to music around the fire. Lynn has always had a love for nature and birds. Many mornings were spent on her front porch drinking coffee and watching the birds. Over the years she started a love for genealogy and researching her family ancestry. She volunteered to create family trees for many people. Lynn held a wealth of knowledge that she generously shared with those around her. Her insight, life experience, and quiet wisdom will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know her.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the many friends, neighbors, and loved ones who have reached out with messages of support. They are especially grateful to Katherine and Gary Van Patten, whose friendship and kindness have been a constant source of comfort over the years.

Lynn's life was a beautiful reminder that the greatest treasures are family, the love we share, the memories we create, and the lives we touch. While our hearts ache in her absence, we find peace in knowing her spirit will always be with us. Gone from our arms, but never from our hearts, Lynn will be loved, remembered, and missed always.

Funeral Services for Lynn will be held on Friday, August 7th at 10:30 am at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main Street, Endicott. Burial will be in Nanticoke Valley Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 6th at the Allen Memorial Home from 4-7 pm.
