Mary M. (Peg) Sever, 75, of Vestal died peacefully at Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital on January 20, 2019 after a brief but sudden illness. She was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA to Joseph and Nancy (Jennings) Wilson. She graduated from St. Rose High School in Carbondale, and earned her BA from Marywood College. She was proud that her liberal arts education prepared her for many different roles over the course of her career: French teacher; purchasing agent; salesperson; and finally with the Broome County Chamber of Commerce where she directed the Broome Leadership Institute of which she was particularly fond and through which she made many lasting connections across the county. Peg was very active in the Our Lady of Sorrows parish as a member of the parish council, Eucharistic minister, lector and singer in the choir. She loved to travel, having made several trips to Europe, the Caribbean, and to Russia through the exchange program with Binghamton’s sister city Borovichi, Novgorod Oblast. She is remembered by her son Joseph and his wife Magdelynn of Ithaca; her son Matthew of Clifton Park; and her daughter Brenda and her husband Kendall Putnam of Union, KY. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, one great granddaughter, one niece and one nephew, and several cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Nancilu Verrastro.
