Endicott

Michelle Jean Giroux Chianucci, 63, passed away Saturday June 13, 2026 having battled a brain tumor for the past twelve years.

Born to Thomas and Charlotte Giroux on October 13, 1962, Michelle grew up in Wappingers Falls, New York and spent her summers in Ausable Forks where she developed a love of the Adirondacks. She graduated from Roy C. Ketchum High School in 1980 and attended Union College in Schenectady, New York where she met the love of her life, David Chianucci.

David and Michelle settled in Endicott, NY in 1984 where they built their dream home and raised their two children, Amy and Dan. Michelle loved her family more than anything, and was very active in supporting their endeavors. Michelle never missed a soccer match, baseball game, softball tournament, swim meet, robotics competition, school musical, or award ceremony.

When her kids graduated, Michelle herself returned to Binghamton University to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. It was during her final semester of nursing school that Michelle was diagnosed with a brain tumor; however, she never let that slow her down. She graduated just six weeks after her diagnosis with her Bachelor’s in Nursing. Later that year, she was hired as a school nurse in the Union-Endicott School District where she worked for 10 years. She especially loved working with the kids in the Tiger Ventures program.

Michelle enjoyed being outside and especially loved the Adirondack Mountains. Shortly after retiring from U-E, Michelle and David moved to Indian Lake, New York and spent the majority of their free time renovating their home away from home. Michelle enjoyed a whole three weeks of retirement before accepting a position as the school nurse at the Indian Lake School District. Michelle courageously battled her brain tumor for twelve years, having numerous surgeries and rounds of radiation, yet she never wavered in her mantra of taking it one day at a time.

We wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the many incredible doctors, nurses, and hospital staff for their compassionate care over the years. We are equally grateful to our wonderful circle of friends and family for their extraordinary care, love, and tireless support throughout Michelle’s courageous twelve year journey.

Michelle will be endlessly missed by her family and be remembered for her kindness, courage, positive outlook, and her beautiful smile.

Michelle was predeceased by her father Thomas J. Giroux and her sister Monica A. Avery. She is survived by her mother Charlotte Giroux, her loving husband of 37 years David Chianucci and their children Amy (Colby) Fisher and Dan Chianucci, and their dogs Kona, Maisy, Kali and Max; sister Mary Kaye (Robert Kendi) Giroux, brother Thomas (Lisa) Giroux, brother Tim (Eileen) Giroux, brother-in-law Skip Avery, sister-in-law Debbie (Andre) Nadeau; and her nieces and nephews Richard (Kelsey Sheridan) and Michael Avery, RJ and Angelina Kendi, Joseph and Noah Giroux, and Emily (Aaron) Damerow, Ethan, Laura, and Lilly Giroux, and Jason (Alyssa) and Pierre (Cassi) Nadeau. Michelle was also loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, June 21 at 11:30am with a memorial service to follow at 12:30pm at Allen Memorial Home, 511 E. Main Street, Endicott, NY. We will also celebrate Michelle following the memorial at Stu’s Place, 114 N. Page Avenue, Endicott, NY immediately following the memorial service. The family will scatter her remains privately at a later time.
