The dedicated wife of over 45 years, loving mother of three, and adored sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend, Mildred Ann Finkelstein (known to those close to her as Millie or Mindy, née Mihok), passed away at the age of 75 on the 24th of November 2025. She was perhaps the most caring person you could ever meet, fully engaged on attending to the happiness and concerns of those around her. She was likewise exceptionally giving to family and friends, even leaving behind a successful career in production and quality control at IBM to focus on raising her 3 adored children. A graduate of Vestal senior high school, she earned her BS in secondary math education at SUNY Cortland, and to the delight of students and teachers alike, later returned to teaching at both the Vestal Central and Maine-Endwell school districts. In her retirement, Millie enjoyed line dancing, Tai Chi, and exercise classes at the Broome West and Johnson City senior centers. Her kindness and charm were widely known throughout the Endwell and Vestal communities, and her absence will be felt like a missing ray of sunshine.
Millie was born on January 18th, 1950 in Queens, NY, to Mildred (née Bobek) and Andrew Mihok. All of her grandparents immigrated from what is today the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and she carried on in their cooking traditions, preparing halušky (stuffed cabbage), koláčky (fruit jam pastry), and makový závin (poppy seed roll) with her family during the holidays.
Millie’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to her doctors, nurses, and staff at Broome Oncology and UHS Radiation Oncology for the excellent treatment and support provided, which gave everyone another two years to enjoy together. Millie’s family is also grateful to her neighbors and friends for their care and compassion in supporting Millie with everyday chores and genuine affection.
Millie is survived by her three children, Lisa, David, and Jeffrey; her sister, Nancy McGraw, her nephews Joseph and Stephen McGraw; her sister-in-law, Marie Mihok, her nephews Andrew, John, and Michael Mihok, and her niece Jennifer Mihok, all of whom will miss her dearly. She is predeceased by her dedicated husband, Alan Finkelstein, her brother, Andrew Mihok, and both of her parents.
