Milton Carl Northrup (91) of Endicott, NY was born in 1934 of McGraw, NY passed away in his home on December 13, 2025.
He is predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Barbara (Tillotson), his son Robert Northrup, his parents Cealeon and Lillian (Knecht) Northrup, and brother Paul Northrup.
He is survived by his children, Carl Thrasher, Rick (Ann) Northrup, Debra Vivian, Randy (Diane) Northrup, Thomas (Chris) Northrup, and Tim Northrup along with 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a large extended family.
Carl graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1952 where he played basketball. He attended Champlain College in Plattsburrgh, NY for 1 year when he transferred to Harpur College in Endicott. He continued as a part-time student well into the 1960s but never achieved his degree.
Throughout his life, he worked a variety of jobs including GE in Westover, a store clerk, even a school bus driver, many times working two to three jobs at a time to support his ever-growing family. Carl spent 28 years working at IBM until company changes brought on early retirement. He then spent 30 years as a tax preparer for H&R Block.
Prior to joining the workforce at IBM, Carl proudly served in the United States Army as a Communications Specialist in the Korean War.
In his spare time, he was an active member of Central United Methodist Church, serving as an Usher, Lay Reader, Liturgist and Sunday School Teacher. As his children became more involved with school activities Carl quickly joined in. He was known as the voice of UE Wrestling, helping to form their booster club. He could be found at the ticket gates for football and basketball games, and an active booster club member for the UE Marching Band. He was inducted in 2010 into the UE Athletics Hall of Fame for his unwavering years of service and dedication to UE Athletics.
In 1982, Carl joined Round Hill Lodge Free and Accepted Masons and served as Master of the Lodge for three terms and achieved Mason of the Year, Distinguished Service Award along with many other awards for over 40 years. This further led to his involvement with the Order of DeMolay and Organization of Triangle, Inc as advisor and support to the youth for countless years.
Carl’s unwavering care for others further led to over 30 years of service to the Endicott Auxiliary Police, serving as chief for over 20 years.
When Carl wasn’t busy in his community, serving those in need, he found time to attend every sport or event for his children and grandchildren as well as travel with Barbara, including 30 years of annual trips to Aruba, leading to them being named as Goodwill Ambassadors.
Carl dearly loved spending time with his family and supporting the area youth any way he could. As such, in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his name may be made to Shriners Children’s.
