Patricia Novello

On November 21st the world lost a beautiful person. Wife, mother, grandmother and athlete, Patricia Ruth Novello with her ever-present smile, took on all aspects of life with pure love and complete commitment. Born in Binghamton to Katherine Mikeska in 1930, Patricia attended Binghamton Central High School, where she was an excellent student and baton majorette. She graduated at age16, began working locally as a secretary and later was hired by the U.S. Navy Department in Washington DC and eventually was employed by IBM. She married Louis Novello Jr. in 1952 and combined motherhood with helping run the family dry cleaning business. Patricia and Louis shared a lifelong love for fitness and for each other. They were avid skiers, experiencing some of the most challenging slopes in Colorado, Utah and the Northeast. They were also enthusiastic bicyclists, taking road and mountain bike trips throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. At age 60, Patricia began training as a triathelete and soon began competing. In addition to multiple victories in her age group in regional competitions, she placed fourth in her age group at the Senior National Triathlon in Texas in 1995. She was also an accomplished figure skater and long-time member of the Binghamton Figure Skating Club. In 2000 Patricia was blessed with the birth of her only grandchild, Sascha. She devoted herself full time to teaching and forming him in his early years, resulting in the wonderful young man he is today. Always generous and full of love for others, she died at home surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with lymphoma. She will be dearly missed by her devoted husband of 64 years, Louis Jr., her three children Jay, LuAnne and Jan, her daughters-in-law, Marie and Line, son in law, Owen and grandson Sascha. At the request of Patricia there will be no calling hours.
