Rodney Williams Gallagher

Rodney Williams Gallagher, age 85, passed peacefully at his home June 2, 2026, with loved ones by his side. Rod was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend whose presence could brighten any room, and whose impact on those who knew him will never be forgotten.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents Rodger and Marion Gallagher, siblings Richard Gallagher and June Northrup, and his beloved son, Brian Gallagher.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sheila Gallagher; his daughter, Colleen (John) MacDonald of Boca Raton, FL; his son, Daniel (Carly) Gallagher of Scottsville, NY; his daughter, Katie Gallagher of Endicott, NY; his brother James (Mary) Gallagher of Endwell, NY and many nieces and nephews. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Kaitlyn, John Taylor, Jaylin, Addison and Sophia, each of whom brought much love and joy to his life.

Rod reserved his weekends for visits with his daughter Katie. These weekends were among the highlights of his life as their father-daughter bond was immutable and brought him great pride, happiness, and joy.

In Rod’s early years, he spent hours working the land, cultivating acres of gardens full of vegetables - most notably garlic. Some years, he planted upwards of 100,000 garlic cloves that in late summer were delivered to family, friends, restaurants, and grocery stores. Today, the yearly garlic harvest is much smaller, but each head is still the size of your fist, with an amazing taste and aroma.

Rod enjoyed walking his property with family and friends foraging for mushrooms, wild leeks, fiddleheads and other tasty plants. He enjoyed sharing what he had learned about edible plants and their benefits, and where to find them on the property.

In Rod’s later years, his sanctuary was his side hill. On sunny days, he would drive his tractor from the house to the hill, past the garlic and vegetable beds, and sit on the dock by the pond enjoying the warm sun and beautiful views. When his grandchildren were in town, he would fish with them, teaching them, sharing stories and having plenty of laughs.

Rod had a deep appreciation for family history and ancestry. He spent countless hours researching, documenting, and preserving his family's story to share with future generations. He believed strongly in the importance of knowing where you come from and took great pride in ensuring that younger generations understood their roots, family connections, and the life of those who came before them.

Anyone who knew Rod, knew he possessed a mischievous streak and a dry sense of humor. His playful jokes and quick wit resulted in a lot of bantering. Rod also loved a good card game and for several years hosted a weekly card night, enjoying the camaraderie, competition, and laughter that came with gathering around the table with good friends.

Rod will be remembered for his generous heart, his unwavering love for his family, his tireless work ethic, and his gift for bringing people together. Though his absence leaves an immeasurable void, his family takes comfort in the countless stories, traditions, lessons, and family history he leaves behind.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the dedicated team at Guthrie Hospice whose kindness, patience, and support brought us much needed comfort and peace during this difficult time.

His wife Sheila, children Colleen and Daniel and their families will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home in Endicott, NY from 4 pm to 6 pm on Monday, June 8th. A funeral mass will be held at Most Holy Rosary Church in Maine, NY at 11am on Tuesday, June 9th with burial to follow at Maine Cemetery.
