Sharon Drake, 69, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday September 21, 2018 after a short painless battle with aggressive cancer. Sharon is survived by her Mother, Georgia Brown; Love of her life, Husband of 49 years, Ford; Daughter Linda Simmons (Dennis) Liberty NY; Son Stephen Drake (Erica) Johnson City; Grandchildren Kyle, Abigail & Tara. Brother in law and Sister in law - David and Anna Ruth Beers; Sister In law Donna Brown, as well as many loving extended family members. Sharon was predeceased by her Father Gordon and Brother Rodney. Sharon was born and raised in Trumansburg, NY, and graduated from SUNY Alfred Tech, with an Executive Secretarial Degree. Sharon retired after 20 Years from the Maine Endwell School District, as the Food Service Manager at Homer Brink Elementary. Sharon was also a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church, Endicott NY, and active on the Bereavement Committee, Prayer Shawl Knitting group. She was always knitting hats for the infants in the NICU, Mittens for the Mitten tree, as well as knitting hats and gloves, lovingly worn by family and friends. Sharon was the President of the East Maine Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, rushing to the station in the middle of the night to make sandwiches for the firefighters. Sharon was active in Amateur Radio, N2WGM, helping in community service and emergency communications events. Sharon was a proud mother of her children and grandchildren, an amazing daughter helping out her mother whenever she needed, as well as many others whom she was a mom to. She was always there to help, holding a ladder or the other end of a board, making sure everybody had food for a party, or a shoulder to lean on, kind words or ear to listen. She put others before herself.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 29th at 10 Am at First Presbyterian Church, Endicott NY. Following the Service the Family will receive guests in the dining room where a light reception will be held by the Church Family, in Sharon’s honor. In lieu of flowers, expression of sympathy may be in the form of donations to the East Maine Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, 847 East Maine Road, Johnson City, NY 13790 or the First Presbyterian Church Bereavement Committee, 29 Grant Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760.
