Teresa Kohut, 89, of Apalachin, NY passed away at home Tuesday, May 6, 2025. Her philosophy was from a poem by Douglas Malloch “Be the Best of Whatever You Are” which she remembered from her high school days. She practiced it from high school, to college, grad school, teaching and as a daughter, wife, mother, Nanna, sister, aunt and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents Vince and Leona Julio, sisters Joan Rogers and Leona Jean Johnson and brother Vincent. She is survived by her husband Daniel, daughters Kim Egan (John) and Becky Kohut, son Daniel Kohut, grandsons Pete and Sam Egan, siblings Arleen Harris, Donna Phillips (Jeff) and Michael Julio along with many nieces and nephews.
She had 3 Gs which made her especially happy: her grandsons, gardening and golfing. She was an avid gardener with a passion for perennials – always finding peace and tranquility surrounded by such ethereal beauty. She found great pleasure in sharing gardening activities with her daughters while her son shared so many of his intellectual pursuits with her. Her golfing buddies were always a source of humor and spirited conversations. They formed a Monday Lunch Bunch that lasted for 30 years. She was delighted and proud of the accomplishments of grandsons Pete and Sam. She was blessed with compassionate, caring neighbors, especially Cathy Forde whose devotion to our needs was unending. A loving person and a faithful friend, she was anxious to please and loath to offend.
During her lifetime she was involved in PTA, Boy Scouts, Religious Ed and extensive volunteering at Waterman Conservation Center. She cherished memories of trips to the beach with her sister Donna and family and especially to visit family in Italy, the origin of her ancestral roots. She hosted many family dinners and was pleased to know they appreciated her cooking and baking skills.
A Funeral Mass for Teresa will be held on Tuesday, May 13th at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal. Burial will be in Nanticoke Valley Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at Church from 9:30 am until Mass at 10:30 am.
