Vincent Cordi

Vincent A. Cordi, 80, went to be with his lord Monday September 26, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents Angelo Cordi and Francis (DiLascia) Cordi. He was also predeceased by several special aunts, uncles, and cousins of the large Cordi and DiLascia families.He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara, the devoted mother of their four children and grandmother of numerous grandchildren. He is survived by his children Vincent (Joelle) Cordi, Vestal, Marie (Stephen) Brayman, College Park, MD, Michael Cordi, Falls Church, VA, and John (Amy) Cordi, Vestal. He is also survived by his grandchildren Samantha, Skylar, Ryan, Nicholas, Michael and Tyler as well as his brother Louis (Beverly) Cordi and many cousins, nieces and nephews.Vince grew up in the Binghamton and Endicott area where he had many life-long friends. He grew up knowing the love of all four of his immigrant Italian grandparents who taught him about his Italian heritage. As a proud Italian-American father and grandfather, Vince taught that heritage to his children and grandchildren.Vince joined IBM in 1956 after graduation from Broome Tech. In 1957, he took an educational leave from IBM to earn an electrical engineering degree from Oklahoma State University and returned to IBM in 1960 where he earned numerous awards and patents over his career. He retired from IBM in 1990 as a Senior Engineer and then spent two years working in the Research Foundation at Binghamton University before spending 13 years in the Mathematical Science Department at BU. He retired from Binghamton University in 2007.He was a founding member of St. Vincent de Paul Church and a long-time member of the Sons of Italy. He had a positive impact on his sons and many other children in the area coaching as part of the Vestal Youth Football League for numerous years. He always looked forward to his monthly “lunch bunch” meal at the Relief Pitcher where he would reunite with his life-long childhood friends. Family vacations spent with his kids and grandkids were the highlight of many summers.Vince was extremely dedicated to his family and devoted his life to them and their well-being. He enjoyed following and being a part of his four children’s athletic and scholastic activities in youth, high school and college. In his later years, he spent countless hours helping to care for his grandchildren and followed their athletic and scholastic activities with the same passion and commitment as he did decades before with his children. His grandchildren were his pride and joy in his senior years.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday 9:15 am from the Allen Memorial Home 511-513 East Main Street Endicott followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church at 10 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Friday, September 30th from 4-7 pm.
