Welford “Bill” Stanton, 94, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2018 at Wilson Hospital. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Evelyn S. Stanton, his beautiful daughter, Virgina Lebherz, and two grandchildren, Richard and Darren. He is survived by his daughter Beth Gillette, grandson Robert and his wife Shannon, longtime friend and companion Dale Miller, granddaughters Kelly, Kristy, Cori, and Casey, great grandchildren Gretchen, Whitney, Denise, Danielle, Diane, Dedra, Adam, Teddy, Amy, Alexia and Taylor, and great great grandchildren Payton and Braden.
Bill was born in Binghamton, NY. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a first class signalmen and received 13 service medals. After the war, he worked as a contracting superintendent and engineer. He was proud to have been a part of building the Bird Library at Syracuse University, the original Owego Elementary School, and Binghamton General Hospital. Bill was a member of the Carpenters’ Union Local #281 for over 50 years. His other passions included hunting and fishing. For almost 15 years, he owned and operated a charter fishing expedition business.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Endwell United Methodist Church, Watson Blvd, Endwell, on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, by Bill’s request, please donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Bill will be sorely missed by many family and friends.
