William T. Dimock

William Thompson Dimock, 90, of Endwell, NY, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2012, in Morrisville, NC. Bill was born on July 15, 1922, in Scranton, PA, to the late Earl Robert Dimock and Mae Belle Thompson Dimock. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 268th U. S. Field Artillery Battalion, travelling all over Europe with the big, 8-inch guns. In August 1944, while stationed off the coast of France in Saint-Malo, Bill was an Observer and spotted the white surrender flag on the island of Cezembre. He accompanied his commanding officer to translate and witness the surrender. While serving in Germany, Bill met and later married his true love, Elsbeth, on May 30, 1947. They returned to the U.S., where Bill worked for Allied Chemical for many years. After retirement, Bill and Elsbeth often returned to Germany and enjoyed many happy vacations abroad. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Elsbeth, and two brothers (Burritt and John). He is survived by his daughters Karin Pechanek (Jerry) of Cary, NC, and Linda Tafel (David) of Newtown, PA; four grandchildren, Julie and Kaity Pechanek; Melissa and Derek Tafel; sister, Betty McArthur of Framington, MA; and many nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held 11 am Saturday, September 1st from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, with the Reverend Lisa Heckman, Pastor of Northminster Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Saturday from 10 am until service time at 11 am.
