Eleanor McClellan-Mead, Vestal, 85, passed away peacefully at Albany Medical Center on Monday, August 11, 2014, surrounded by her family. Eleanor was born in Amsterdam, NY on April 27, 1929, the daughter of George and Maria Koziol. She was predeceased by her first husband Jack McClellan in 1993 and her second husband Warren Mead in 2008. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Scot and Maureen McClellan of Warrington, PA and grandchildren Laura and Nate; her daughter and son-in-law Hollis and Peter Misiewicz of Davidsonville, MD, grandchildren Tara, Tracy, Matthew, Brian and Jeffrey, and two great-grandchildren Graham and Cayenne; her son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Lisa McClellan of Vestal, NY, and grandchild Christine. She is also survived by nieces Karen Searles, Susan McClellan and Robin McClellan, as well as brother-in-law and special friend James Mead. Eleanor was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and the love of her family always came first. She was a long time member of her church, Our Lady of Sorrows, where she formed many deep friendships over the years. Eleanor loved her role as the long time coordinator of the OLS food pantry where she was able to help many in times of need. She enjoyed her participation in the Ridgehaven Garden Club and Ladybugs social groups. Eleanor also enjoyed ceramics for many years, and loved sewing and flower gardening. Her love, compassion and guidance will be deeply missed.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 15th from 4-7 pm at Allen Memorial Funeral Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, NY. Funeral services, officiated by Father John Kurgan, will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal on Saturday, August 16th at 1:30 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Eleanor may be made to the Our Lady of Sorrows Food Pantry.
