Ivy, Adrienne and all of Erik's family, I was terribly saddened to learn of Erik's passing. I know this was a shock for you all since he was so young. I greatly admired Erik, having worked with him for several years when he was in Harpur Advising. We didn't have as frequent contact when he moved to EOP, but it was still a shock to learn that he was as sick as he was. My thoughts are with you as you work through this troubled time.
Wan Deng left a message on September 14, 2017:
My most sincere condolences to the Colon family and friends. Erik has been a mentor to me and a good friend. He has helped me tremendously throughout the years and I would not be where I am today without him. He will be missed.
Daryl Santos left a message on September 14, 2017:
Dear Ivy, Adrienne, and the Colon family, Please accept my sincere apologies in that I may not make today's service. I was able to attend the vigil and in addition to hearing the many wonderful stories about Erik from the heart-felt testimonials, I was happy to see you (Ivy) muster the strength and make it to that event. Along with many others, I'm really going to miss him at the Brothers Lunch sessions that we started here on campus last year and continuing into this year, I'm going to miss his dedication to the students and to the Faculty and Staff of Color Association, and, like all of us, I'm going to miss his smile and incessant upbeat attitude. Sincerely, Daryl Santos

My wife Evelyn and I remember with fondness meeting Eric during his semester-in-London time when I was directing the program. He was a delightful young man who engaged fully in the program and pursued the opportunity to expand his understanding of the world around him. His life was enriched by his time there, and he enriched the lives of other. I have met so many wonderful students in the program over the years, and it is difficult to remember all of them. But we fondly remember him and are saddened by what has happened. Our deep condolences to his family and to all who knew and loved him. Bernie and Evelyn Rosenthal

Deepest sympathy to Ivy and Adrienne and the Colon family. I have known Erik for so many years as our paths crossed at Binghamton University and then, more recently working at the Tuesday night community dinners. I would be so happy to see Erik light up when talking about his baby girl and Ivy. May your sweet memories of this kind and gentle spirit ease your grief and sorrow.
Sean Fenty left a message on September 12, 2017:
I found out about Erik's passing while holding my newly born son the evening we brought him home. The first thought I had was what a great and proud father and husband Erik was, and how he inspired me to cherish my own fatherhood more. Any time I visited Erik to talk about work, the conversation inevitably shifted to his family, and how proud, happy, and lucky he was to have Adrienne and Ivy in his life. Pictures and mementos throughout his office reminded him of what was most important--photos of family and friends, and gifts from students he helped throughout his career. Erik's life was tragically brief, but it was a rich one. He left a positive mark on those who knew him, and his legacy lives on in the memories he left behind and in his beautiful daughter.
