George Leskow

George Leskow, 92, of Endwell, NY passed away at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, after a few weeks of rapidly declining health from pancreatic and liver cancer. He is pre-deceased by his wife Nellie (Stackowitz) of 66 years, his parents, Nicholas and Katherine (Kulakowski); and his sister, Martha Vlkovic. George was born in Olean, NY before moving to Endicott, NY. George is survived by his son, David (Anne) of Westport, CT; and his granddaughter Helena of Westport, CT, his twin brother John Leskow of Endwell, NY, and his sister Julie Hall of Pompano Beach, FL. Usually introduced by relatives as “Uncle George”, he has a large extended family in and around the Endicott area. He greatly adored all his nieces and nephews and had many close neighbors that were like family. George graduated from Union Endicott High School, Class of ’44. He served in the U.S. Army during WW2 in the Pacific and was employed at IBM for 38 years in both Endicott and Owego, NY. George is best known for his expansive backyard garden where he grew numerous varieties of tomatoes and other vegetables. They were shared with everyone. George was a polka lover and never missed an opportunity to listen to the music on the radio or watch on TV or attend an event or festival. He always noticed when someone was tapping their toes to the music. He was long-time member of St. Casimir’s Parish and more recently a parishioner of The Church of the Holy Family in Endwell. He graciously moved through life’s difficulties enduring 2 floods and being primary caregiver to his wife during her last years of life. He was a sweet man and loved by all who knew him. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday June 22 at 1 PM at The Church of the Holy Family, Endwell. Entombment will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott. In lieu of flowers an expression of sympathy in George’s name can be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 North McKinley Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760.
