Gerald F. Porter, 95, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully at James G. Johnston Nursing Center, Johnson City on Monday, March 24, 2014. Gerald and his twin sister Geraldine were born on July 12, 1918 to the late Frank J. and Anna L. Porter of Endicott, NY. He was predeceased by his son Kenneth, his sisters Mary (James) Loughren, Rosaline (Alan) Borough, Geraldine (Francis) Casey, and Ruth (Stanley) Kulheim; his brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Jane Porter. Gerald is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years Marietta and several nieces and nephews. Gerald was a proud veteran of W.W. II and the Korean War, serving in the US Navy. He earned 12 Battle Stars in the Pacific Theater while serving as Chief Fire Control aboard the USS Hunt (DD-674). He was a retired IBM Corp employee and member of its Quarter Century Club. Gerald was also the last surviving member of his family to attend the one room school house that was located on Bornt Hill Road, Endicott, before it was moved to the Town of Maine. Funeral Services will be held Thursday 11 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, with the Reverend Father Donald Bourgeois, Pastor of St. Ambrose Church, Endicott officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Thursday from 10 am until service time at 11 am.
