Hazel Pauline DeNerio of Vestal, passed away peacefully of natural causes, at home on the morning of March 10, 2016. Hazel was born in the city of Memphis, Tennessee at 7:00 am on April 23, 1924. She was the oldest child of Earl Husk of Malden, Missouri and Marion Covey of Jenningsville, Pennsylvania. Hazel first and foremost was a loving companion, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving partner of forty years Jay Keller, Daughter and husband, Patricia and Douglass Bond of Taylors, South Carolina, Son and wife Robert and Evelyn Hanna of Debary, Florida, five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Hazel held fond memories of working as a waitress at the Mark Twain Hotel in Elmira during its glory days, twenty one years in the office of The Overhead Door Company of Elmira and as a Senior Data Entry Operator for New York State Police in Horseheads upon her retirement in 1991. Hazel loved being outdoors. Whether it was camping, traveling the scenic byways and back roads of upstate New York and Pennsylvania by car or on the back of a touring Motorcycle, boating the Finger Lakes or the annual family vacation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Hazel simply loved being on the go. Visiting historical locations and traveling the nooks and crannies of the Maine coastline were other passions. She also enjoyed her flower gardens, was an avid reader, and worker of various word and jigsaw puzzles. Hazel had a youthful exuberance and a unique personality that touched the hearts of all who knew her and she will be missed for many years to come.
