Irene C. Sorber, 95, of Vestal, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at her home while surrounded by her adoring family. Irene married the love of her life, Ralph Sorber, more than 76 years ago. Irene worked as an executive secretary at the Ansco corporation and served as secretary to the Dean at Broome Tech while Ralph served in World War II and then earned a BS in Chemistry from Syracuse University. In 1950, Irene became a full-time homemaker and managed her family with love, compassion, and great skill. In “retirement” Irene worked side-by-side with Ralph to establish and manage Sorber Affiliate, their real estate brokerage firm. Irene loved to cook and fuss over the people around her. All who knew her were warmed by her love and sweet spirit. She was looking forward to a great celebration and singing “I’ll Fly Away!” with her loved ones. Irene was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Sorber; her son, Thomas Sorber; her mother and father, Lula and Jeremiah Reynolds; her brothers, Ralph Reynolds, Norris Reynolds, Harold Reynolds; her sisters, Ada Bender, Elva DeGarmo. Irene is survived by her two sons and three daughters-in-law, Brian and Joanne Sorber, Linda Sorber, Scott and Jenny Sorber; her grandchildren, Holly (Sorber) and Troy Fisher, Adam and Tiffany Sorber, Wendy (Sorber) and Dan Seck, Emily Sorber, Ben Sorber, Haley Sorber, Amy (Sorber) and Cal Michaels, Tommy Sorber; her great grandchildren, Harrison Fisher, Sullivan Fisher, Wilson Fisher, Calvin Fisher, Dylan Seck, Corey Seck, Collette Brooks, Henry Michaels; her sister Gloria Arnold; her two sisters in law, Audrey Sorber, Beverly Spencer; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joanne and Don Doolittle; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Irene’s life will be held at Vestal Center Methodist Church, 478 West Hill Road, Vestal, NY on Saturday, February 16, 2019. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and the celebration service will begin at 12:00 PM.
