Jay L. Wilber, age 62, passed away unexpectedly on October 14, 2022. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas Wilber, paternal grandparents, Donald and Josephine Wilber, maternal grandparents, William and Wilma Mackie, aunt and uncle, Sanford & Janet Tanenhaus, in laws, Bonnie and Gerald Dukerich. He is survived by his loving wife, Denise, and son Jeremy, mother Patricia Wilber, sister, Lisa (Mark) Hewel, sisters-in-law Gerilyn (Kim) Cummings, Debra (James) Dougherty. He is also survived by Aunt, Jackie Lindsay, nieces and nephews, Evan (Emily Declercq) Hewel, Abigail Hewel, Ashley (Eric) Colburn, Ryan (Antonietta Paolini) Edwards, Kristopher (Maria) Edwards, Courtney Edwards, Michael Dougherty, and Shannon Dougherty. Jay was a graduate of Maine Endwell Senior High School and Hartwick College. He also received his law degree from Nova University. Throughout his lifetime Jay was an active member of several associations including, the NYS Bar Association, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and NYS Defenders Association. Jay was a proud recipient of the Maine Endwell Graduate of Distinction award. He served his community in many ways, including Dollars for Scholars and Endwell Rotary, serving as president for two years and a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow. After his time serving Rotary, Jay continued to volunteer at the Dicks Open. Jay was a loving and caring father and husband, who made sure his family was taken care of. He worked hard to ensure that he could provide everything his family needed and wanted. Jay will be remembered as the life of the party, always putting a smile on your face, especially his best friends Tim Allen, Michael Duncan, Kyle Duncan, and Marty Jacoby.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday 4 pm at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. The family will receive friends Thursday at the Allen Memorial Home from 2 pm until service time at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jay’s memory may be made to the Charity of your choice.

I met him just once and he kept me laughing the entire time. He was a very nice man. My condolences.

My condolences to the Wilbur family and and to all his close friends. I met Jay through the annual Moosehead Golf tournament held every Labor Day weekend since 1986. I was part of the Kyle Duncan UNC-G crew. Jay was a great guy who always enjoyed a good laugh. I will also remember him as a mother hen who would keep us all guys in line right when we were about to make bad decisions. Jay would always have everyone’s back, giving rides from the bar back to the house we were staying in. He’d go back and forth multiple times which he didn’t have to do. That’s the person I know. He will be missed. Rest in piece Jay!

I have known Jay for most of my life. First as a M-E school friend to my sister and brother-in-law, and then as a colleague and a boss for many years. I am so very sorry for this unexpected and tragic loss. I wish I could be with you all today to say good-bye, but sadly I am unable. I am sending my love and sympathies to Denise, Jeremy and the entire Wilber family. May his memory be a blessing...

So sorry to hear of the passing of "The Councillor " Jay. He was always someone who could take a joke as well as give it but always with a smile on his face. For thirty some years the gathering at the Moosehead every labor day weekend was always something to look forward to and Jay and his friendship was a big part of it. I’ve known Jay, as a fellow attorney, since he first Started in the public defenders office over 30 years ago. He was always pleasant and courteous to everyone he came across; the consummate gentleman. His smiling face will be missed throughout the courts and the community. Denise, Jeremy and family, So sorry for your loss. Jay was a lifelong friend and I will miss him greatly. I'm so glad that I got to see him last December when I came to town. I will be unable to travel to the funeral but Jay will know that I'm there in spirit. I have so many great memories with Jay but all of us golfers in the class of '78 will never forget his battery operated blender at the reunion golf events. He was one of a kind. Bob
