Our beloved mother, Jeannette B. Shelanskey, age 83, of Endicott, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. She is predeceased by her parents, Lionel and Mary Jane Rouleau, an infant sister, Veronica, and her husband, Robert Shelanskey. Jeannette is survived by her children: Ann (Mike) Blodgett, Owego, NY; David (Darleen) Shelanskey, Cape Coral, FL; Paul Shelanskey, Mountain Home, ID; and Diane (Daniel) Stanek, Chillicothe, IL. She was blessed with eleven grandchildren: Mary Sadonis, Karen Sadonis, Michael Blodgett, Jessica Palmer, Jeffrey Blodgett, Ann Anderson, James Nute, Laurena Collea, Carrie Johnson, Mark Stanek and Luke Stanek; as well as several great-grand children. Jeannette was born on January 1, 1935, (a New Year’s baby!) in Portsmouth, NH. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1953 and went on to work at the Navy Yard. On January 19, 1955, (a weeknight, yikes!), she and some girlfriends went to a dance in Lowell, Massachusetts. There she met the love of her life, Robert Shelanskey. Robert proposed after only four dates! They married in 1956 and celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2016. Jeannette was a homemaker devoting her life to Robert and their four children. Having been born in a seacoast town, Jeannette loved getting back to the beach as often as possible. Later in life, the warm waters of Myrtle Beach beckoned to her and Robert. They spent thirteen winters there reuniting with relatives and making new friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Endicott. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, on Monday evening from 4-6 pm. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 701 West Main Street, Endicott, NY 13760.
