Joan was there when I was first hired as an adjunct at the college. She was always so kind and helpful. What a difference she made to the staff and the students at the college. I so enjoyed her humor, her kindness and her wisdom.

As I think back, I remember Joan as pretty much my second Mom during a significant period of time while I was growing up. I remember many days spent at or around her house, and many rounds of her homemade snacks and meals. I know I am one of MANY people she has made feel welcome over the years. I still treasure the family recipes she thoughtfully wrote out by hand for my wedding and all of her handmade crocheted gifts that she somehow found time to make. I will miss her contagious smile, warmth, and being treated like her own child. Her example of how to be a kind, generous, and welcoming person has influenced and inspired me throughout my life.To Bill, Scott, and Kevin - I am so sorry for your abrupt and unexpected loss. I know she is (and will always be) part of the bedrock of your lives. I'm certain words cannot convey how much she will be missed, but please know that my family's prayers are with you all.

A light has surely gone out of our lives. Joan was as much a "first cousin" as if she had been born into our family. She will be missed by Dave and me as well as all the Carroll Clan. We love you, Joan. Your cousin, Sharon

Mrs. Shumin was one of the nicest people I've ever met. She treated everyone like family and always made you feel welcome. Just a genuinely good person and I'm truly sad for Mr Shumin, Kevin, Scott and their entire family. She was loved by a lot of people because she was such a positive influence in all of our lives. Some of my best memories growing up were time spent with the Shumin family and I'm truly thankful for all the time I got to spend time with them. I'm keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

You were the Love of My Life for 52 years. You maybe gone, but you'll never be far from me. I'll love you until the day I die. We'll be together sooner then you think. I love you so much and it hurts not having you at my side. You have only been gone a day, but you are greatly missed. Until I'm at your side again, I LOVE YOU!!!!!!
