LeRoy J. Youngs, 84, recently of United Methodist Homes, Johnson City, NY, and formerly of Nanticoke, NY, passed away peacefully on 19 October 2022. Roy was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years Barbara (Buono) Youngs in 2018. He was also predeceased by his parents James B. and Anna (Durfee) Youngs. Roy is survived by his devoted children Deborah L. Youngs of Endicott and James L. (Deborah Stratton) Youngs of Auburn, NY. Also by his siblings Gerald (Jane) Youngs, Barbara (Gary) Shipman, Janice (Robert) Shipman and brother-in-law Daniel P. (Lois Jean) Buono of McGaheysville VA. Also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Roy was a Systems Engineer with IBM for over 30 years, with degrees from Broome Tech and Elmira College. Roy was a former Volunteer Firefighter for the Nanticoke Fire Department, a Justice of the Peace and a long time Councilman for the Town of Nanticoke. He was an amateur photographer, a Ham Radio operator (KA2CZD), and an avid genealogist who researched his Jung and Mooers ancestors. Roy was instrumental in an online group piecing together the ancestry and descendants of Jerg Hans Jung, collaborating with detailed perseverance. In his retirement Roy restored and showed his second ‘59 Chevy Impala, his first having been sold to cover the financial responsibilities of marriage and family. Raised by loving parents and grandparents, encouraged in his academic studies by his aunt Clara Mooers Litsche and teacher Miss F. Marie Scott, who both believed in his talents. Roy was a loving husband and father and a dedicated son. He facilitated his daughter’s affinity for animals large and small, photography, genealogy and the outdoors, and his son’s affinity for dirt bikes, engineering and fixing things. Even as a youngster Roy was fascinated by how things worked, taking mechanisms apart and back together and as an adult he could fix absolutely anything. Roy, however, could not fix the dementia which first slowly, then rapidly and without remorse overtook his mind and his abilities. He is now at peace, with his Lord and with his beautiful wife.
