Loye H. Powell passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Velva Powell; two sisters, Verda Powell and Ilese Symonds. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan; two daughters and their husbands, Wendy Powell and Donald Rober, Carlisle, MA, Debra and Dr. John Sullivan, Louisville, KY; one son and his wife, Donald and Donna Powell, Dallas, TX; five grandchildren Michael and Vanthy Rober; Benjamin Fitzpatrick; Megan and Eric Bergquist and Alexa Powell. Mr. Powell was a veteran of the US Navy. He was a graduate of Clemson University receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and a Deacon. Mr. Powell retired from IBM after 34 years of service and was a member of its Quarter Century Club. He was a life member of the United States Power Squadron where he taught the Safe Boating course for 25 years. His family would like to thank the staff at Hilltop Retirement Center for their superb care of Loye.
The family will receive friends at Northminster Presbyterian Church, corner of Farm to Market and Hooper Roads, Endwell, Monday from 10 am until service time at 11 am In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Northminster Foundation or the charity of one’s choice.
